Sunshine Poppy, Version 2!

I've updated my Sunshine Poppy font at the request of a user to include common European diacritical marks. The font itself has been slightly thickened, and the numbers reworked a bit to make them closer to the thickness of the letters. This file has the same name as the old, so if you install it it should write right over the old one.

Boy, it's been a long time since I posted (and I still don't like this new blog format; maybe I'll get some time to work on it this month). We had a fabulous vacation in Florida (except for the heat part--can't take it), and now we're back home in the midst of our exciting winter storms--plenty of time to create!

And speaking of which, here's what I have for you for the new year: a huge Project 365/52/12 bundle called A Year of Hope! In case you're not familiar with the concept, P352 is the attempt to take at least one photo a day, and share it in scrapping. I can imagine that if you finished that and made an album from those pages, it would be gorgeous! P52 is for 1 page a week, somewhat more feasible. P12--well, if you miss a few weeks, then once a month will do!

I'll be adding to this "kit" all year long, but this is what I have to start you off with: gorgeous papers, a bunch of frames, flowers, ribbons, etc., a set of 52 week cards, a set of templates and numbers (these are included in the kit, too), and a set of flourish-y words to decorate with.

Diamond Ice & Water Months - New @ MScraps!

Oooh, I have a wonderful fun kit for you--especially if you like blue, or you have cold pics to scrap! And, while I was making my freebie template this week, I also got inspired to make an element pack for the months of the year. So two things for you guys!!

The kit is called Diamond Ice. It's filled with unusual patterns and elegant styles, and works for both girls and boys, and whatever's not realistic is hand-drawn. I really hope you'll enjoy playing around with it:

I also have the WaterMonths, which are the names of months written into watercolor-like strokes. They come as a black and transparent .png, then you can recolor them, use them as masks, or even paint them yourselves.

Can't believe it's the end of the year already! But it is, and I've been making photobooks like crazy--so I've made up a pack of templates for a Shutterfly album (I'm not affiliated with them, but it's who I use to print mine). These templates are meant for fast production! I used no decoration at all except for the pinstripe around the tags, but as you'll see from the CT examples, they can be dressed up too! These are great for a year in review, or a way to showcase your best photos. The template pack is called PhotoFull (cuz I'm so creative with kit names and all... ;):

Hi everybody! What a great day it is here--wild, wet, seagulls hunkering down in the grass facing south, waves crashing and blowing in the wind--just the perfect winter storm day. Plus, we have power still! *lol*

And at MScraps, much newness! I have a couple of sets (by request) of very basic shape templates. Clippers 1 is full (30 items!) of curves and swirls that you can use to clip papers for your backgrounds. 2 Free Fonts: Home & Hearth

So, to make the alpha included in the Home & Hearth kit, I had to make a font, and then a display font (3 days of work!!). And here they are! The display font is better for titles or alphas; the plain font is a very legible print font, especially if you're using a program that has kerning enabled. Just click on the images to download the font folders!

These fonts are free for personal and commercial use (I do like to see what you do with them, though, and they may not be resold as is, nor included in any compilation without the accompanying TOU). The fonts I make are my way of repaying the design community for freebies that I've found online too. Thanks for sharing, you guys!

I'll be submitting these to dafont.com too, where you can find my other free fonts. Let me know if you like them!

New Masks, With a Twist!

Hi everybody! I'm exhausted after sending out the MScraps newsletter and setting up the sale on the new products and everything (I'm helping out while Joyce is gone)--I'm not sure how she does this twice a week! *laugh*

But I also have a new product out this week called DoubleMasks (20% off till Monday, as usual). Sure enough, as the name suggests, there are two of them per "unit." But they're not the same: one is a photo mask that has at least one clear edge, then fades off in the other direction, and the other is grunge/splatter to be placed in the background.

This setup enables you to play with layering two photos, or one photo twice with the background one enlarged, for example; or layering a photo and a paper; or simply a photo with a plain color fill. Whatever way you choose to go with it, it's fun!

You get 10 unique masks in this kit:

Template Tuesdays 8 (Freebie Template)

I got ready ahead of time this week--hope you enjoy it! This template contains two "fading" photomasks. Just clip your photo to them (ctrl+g in PSE, alt+ctrl+g in CS+) and watch them fade out! It can be a fun effect. In my original layout, it faded into a big picture that I put in the background, which tied everything together. Just click on the preview to download (8.46Mb).

Hi gang--another Tuesday rolls around! This time I thought I'd go clean on ya. If you haven't tried that style yet, this is your perfect chance to give it a go! Just add a photo, journaling, place and date, and one embellishment, and you're good to go. Click on the image to download, and check out my layout using the template while you wait! And have a wonderful Tuesday, too! =)

Just a little trick that I used which you might find interesting: I first colored the mask, then clipped the photo to it, and lightly erased the edges of the photo so the color of the mask could show through. I think it adds to the softness of the page.

Also, in the template you'll find a bar of white that goes behind the wordart--that was just because the color I used didn't stand out too well over the photo. So feel free to hide or not use that layer if you want something even cleaner!

*giggles* I think that means "eating locally-grown food" -- for some variation of "local." But I was really excited to day to pick up my first delivery of local-ish grown veggies from a farm about 50 miles away (over the mountains)!

The Gathering Together Farm crew delivers them to a wonderful local bakery, The Green Salmon Café, and then we all show up Saturday morning to get our box (we actually repack the veggies to take them home--I happened to find this old basket in our garage which I thought was perfect!). We all = whoever signed up for the food share program--there was a minimum specified of 10 people for our tiny town.

This is what we got this week:

Contents: 1.5 lb Colorado Rose Potatoes, Baby Onions, Spinach, Dill, Mustard Greens Bunch, Carrots, White Turnips, Red Leaf Lettuce, Green Garlic, 1 Cucumber. Yummmmmmm! Gonna have a greens smorgasbord for sure, and not sure what else--roasted veggies, perhaps, with fresh rosemary from the garden?

Hope you guys find some great foods at your local Farmer's Market this weekend! Bon appétit... =)

Oh my new camera, how I love thee...

We got a BONUS sun day today! Really, it couldn't have been more glorious. Upper 60's, hot enough that a sweatshirt was uncomfortably warm, but not so hot that you weren't happy to have it in the shade. So, we decided to go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium!

These aren't perfect pictures by any means, but oh, so much better than my old camera--and these were WITHOUT FLASH! That's what's the most amazing to me--especially the Japanese Spider Crab one. Coo-OOL!

Oh, the octopus was in FINE form today! He skirled from one side of the tank to the other, bright bright red, then gradually puckered up and went dormant in the front corner. It was very very dark in that little alcove, and you can't use flash, so I got a lot of window reflection and blurriness, but still, I was pleased to get some good memories!

Silhouette: Peace & Bamboo

So remember when I said something about my first lesson learned with the Silhouette: don't cute insanely intricate shapes? This is all I salvaged from my original bamboo stamp at Art Neko:

The font is Dream Orphans, and that was cut on the Silhouette too. It -was- a rather thin cardstock, but still--ridiculous! *laugh* Oh well, live and learn. Oh, and the background is one of those paint swatches I picked up at the local Fred Meyer's (large grocery store or small department store, depending on how you look at it).

I finally made the move, and my long-coveted Silhouette SD arrived today, whereupon I ~~wasted~~ spent the rest of the afternoon and evening trying to find the best match between the two of us. I learned a lot!

1) Don't try to cut out your very delicate rubber stamp designs unless you're doing it on copy paper. (I haven't tried the latter, but trying it on cardboard sure didn't work out.)
2) Very finely disected cardstock leaves a WHALE of a mess on those sticky mats.
3) However, they're kind of like Tack'n'Peel, in that you can just rinse them off with cold water (just rub the paper bits off with your fingers), shake the mat off a bit (meanwhile making that thunder sound and freaking out the dog), then hang it up to dry by a corner. The sticky came -right back- as soon as the mat dried. Phew!

I love the machine! As a bonus, it makes the coolest little musical arrangements while it cuts. Allen described it as something between jazz and rock. =)

So, after I'd finished futzing about, I finally just broke down and used a "Nested Sunflower" pattern (nested_sunflower_3d_C00307_21585) that I'd picked up with my $10 card that came with the machine, and cut out 3 of the patterns (which take up a full sheet of cardstock) in less than 3 minutes. Wahoooooooo! Then I put it all together, though I made it a bit more fancy than they did.

And then I thought that just to honor the occasion, I'd make you guys a freebie--a tiny-kit. =) (Just click on the picture below to download it)

News @ The Abode

So today we were supposed to get the corner couch, and the wall unit. I guess one out of 2 isn't bad, eh? Here's the wall unit, which is awesome:

It's of course not in its final state, but we love it so far! The cats love it too--they have their own special little tunnel on the shelf behind the books. It's so cute!

The couch... was built in the mirror image of what we'd ordered. Which we only discovered once the poor guys had virtually dismantled the front door to get it in, then assembled it and everything. So, back to the store it went. Since it was specially built for us, I hope they can sell it off! I guess we get to wait another couple of months for the right one to be built... =/

And over Mother's Day weekend, we were up in Portland for another of Eddie's conferences. I took Allen to the Children's Museum. I was playing "patient" in the fake ambulance they have there, and as I was rising from the dead my camera fell to the floor, whereupon it perished in the final throes of bashedness, alas.

I'd *almost* saved up enough money to buy a new one, so frantic consultations were made with my online photographer buddies, the camera was located at a nearby Fry's, and then Eddie said it was my early birthday present! WHOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It's a Canon EOS Rebel T3, and I'm having the best time trying to figure out what the best settings are...

After shooting pictures at the beach tonight, I determined I definitely need a zoom lens. The point-and-shoot was very grainy, but you could get up pretty close and do some nice face shots without being right IN the face (practical for little boys who give you the cold shoulder as soon as they realize you're taking pictures of them!).

On the other hand the quality (when I get the settings right!) is just amazing!

I also would love to get a dedicated macro lens for up close photos, although the ones I can take with this lens (the kit lens, 18-55mm [whatever that means--still haven't really figured things out yet!]) are pretty darn fine!

And I need a chamois or something to wipe down the camera and lens after being on the beach. And I need a dust blower already for the lens itself! But all in good time... Thank you honey for my magnificent present, once again!!!

Templates! That's right folks, TWENTY-FOUR (yes, I know I can't count, but I did leave out the K & X) templates for you, based on the "A is for..." formula. These are loads of fun, easy, and you get a ton of wordart, masks, and other goodies out of it too!

These even come singly if you want. I'll even make up a template for you with the letter and word you like (use the AlphaYou product for ordering that). But let me tell you, I think these will make a *very* cute photoalbum for someone! I'm making one, but it's a secret for whom... hehehe. In case they read my blog.
