New Element Pack: AlphaMasks 1

Check these out! These are some new AlphaMasks--12x12" reverse word art that you can use to slip pics under (like I did), or play with in different ways. Here are some suggestions:

1. Clip a paper to them, then slide some photos underneath, and add some elements on top. This is what I did for the "Party" layout. I actually clipped several papers to bring focus onto the word.
2. Set the layer mode to "overlay" (or color burn, or screen) over a paper, then add the word in a different font over top.
3. Clip a photograph to the mask, then slide something under to make the words pop out (or, duplicate the photo, slide it underneath, and put a color overlay or gradient on it, and let the color difference shine through).
4. Reduce the mask in size and cut most of the black out to make a sign or stencil word art--use it like any other embellishment.
5. Leave the mask black, and place it over-top of your layout so the only color is in the words (personally, I'd erase bits of the mask around the letters so some very 3D elements could show through, but you could still read the word). And there you go!

Just click on the layouts to see them full size...

Also, I have a "Monthly Mojo" challenge up at PickleBerryPop, about some word that was important to your family. Here's Allen waving his big vocabulary around...

And, I was feeling experimental, so I tried a tutorial by Jenny Le (2013) that was supposed to produce a watercolor effect. But I just played and played and produced a kinda dream-like effect, which I like just as much. Lots of layers, lots of masking, and lots of blending modes here!

Hopefully you're signed up for my newsletter--I just released two new freebies today!

Post-Thanksgiving Sales

I have been a BUSY bee!! So, not only was there that blog hop freebie, but I have been making new stuff like crazy. Here's one thing: Oscraps has this event once a month called the Mini-O's, where designers are given a palette and choose 2-3 of the colors to make packs, which are then 44% off for 4 days starting the 4th Friday of the month. This month the colors made me feel rather festive... and hence, 3 packs of FESTIVE BITS: a mini-kit, decorative papers (those were fun to make, and I might make more of these in the future), and brushes.

As it turns out, the store is also hosting a Black Friday through Cyber Monday sale, and my store is 40% off everything (except one collection, which is off more than that). And I made the ad with one of my new Doodled Corners (#2)--it's so fun to play with!!

Finally... I have ANOTHER freebie for you, which you can pick up in the store. Something's in the Air... a lot of holiday excitement, I'd say!!!

I hope all of you have had a lovely day whether it was filled with turkey or not (mine wasn't, since I'm a vegetarian, but boy did I have a lot of bourbon-filled, pecan-covered sweet potatoes! *lol*

Productivity Overdrive!

Well, May was a HUGELY BUSY month for me. I had to finish (well, start and finish) a 5'x18" banner for a Midsummer Masquerade fundraiser ball in town. It's been sooooooooo long since I've painted on canvas--I was really scared to start! The 2nd day was the worst, but on the last day I suddenly hit my groove, and the whole thing turned out ok. (You can see it on the fundraiser auction website here.) Plus, I was busy making TWO free kits for 2 different scrapping sites. More on those later in June! So then I figured that if I was going to be featured in June, I should probably have some new stuff in my shops... and *boom!* Creativity happened!

So, I have a new kit for you called Flying Colors (I'd polled my fans on Facebook about whether "Tickled Pink" or "Flying Colors" caught their fancy more, and the latter won). It's nominally about graduation from any grade, but also of course about that exciting and fearful time of change, when you don't really know what's going to happen next... I had to show the brushes, and the word art, separately (click on them to see them full size), cuz of course the kit is huge!

And this, is a coordinating freebie!!

Not only all that, but I also participated in the MScraps Memory Mix collection, where you can get mix and match pieces for either $1 or $2, depending on how full the packs are. Mine's a delightful collection of beach-themed brushes called Sunsplashed, taken from photographs of my own wanderings, of course!

And furthermore, while I was coming up with my little bead scatters for the Flying Colors kit, I just went ahead and extracted a whole BUNCH of beads, and put them in my commercial use shop (though they're good for CU or PU!):

I will leave you to imagine how long it took to use the pen tool to extract all those babies. Heh.

So there you go! And the end of school is approaching, which means I have less and less to do each day as Allen claws his way through the end of the curriculum--and for me, that means MORE TIME! Can't wait for summer vacation!

Hope everybody has a wonderful weekend playing. =)

What a weekend!

We had a lovely trip up to Washington for the Thanksgiving holiday, which we spent with old friends and their family. Got to catch a view of Mt. Hood on the way:

If you do Thanksgiving, I hope you had a wonderful one! And in the meantime, shopping opportunities abound! I have so much new stuff and sales this weekend--I don't know how I managed to pull it all together, really. First, a new kit called Spice Of Life (all in nice autumnal colors, too):

http://www.mscraps.com/shop/HeatherT-Spice-Of-Life/

In addition, I made 3 clusters which are only offered as a Free-With-Purchase (over $5.00) deal:

And, I put up 2 new freebies on my Facebook Design by Heather T. page: Templates (under the PU tab) and a mask (under the CU tab, but it can be used for personal use too, of course):

https://www.facebook.com/DesignByHeatherT

https://www.facebook.com/DesignByHeatherT

To add to all this, I have a new little mini Black Friday Stash kit! The deal on these is that you can get each for $2.39, or mix and match 5 for $10! Here's mine:

Plus (I know, it doesn't end! *laugh*), I'm retiring a bunch of my kits and element packs. They'll be here through Cyber Monday, but then they're gone. I've placed them at 58% off for the most part, but if you buy 4 of them, you'll get an extra 50% off.
